{1 Year Anniversary}

I just noticed that today is my blogs 1 year anniversary!!

I have just been back in time reading all of my posts. Wow we have been through a lot in just 1 year, and i'm sure the next year will be just as crazy. Can't wait to read about it!

Oh, and to all of you that don't know this, you can print your blog (pictures and all) I already have a years worth in a nice binder to pass down to my kids.

{Economy}

Just a blurb I found that I wanted to post on my blog for documentation. I will admit I don't keep up on all of this wall street/economy/politics garbage so I don't really have an opinion about it, I just hope it gets resolved quickly.

WASHINGTON - In a stunning vote that shocked the capital and worldwide markets, the House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue for the nation's financial system, ignoring urgent warnings from President Bush and congressional leaders of both parties that the economy could nosedive without it. The Dow Jones industrials plunged nearly 800 points, the most ever for a single day.

Democratic and Republican leaders alike pledged to try again, though the Democrats said GOP lawmakers needed to provide more votes. Bush huddled with his economic advisers about a next step. The House was to reconvene on Thursday instead of adjourning for the year as planned.
Stocks began falling even before the 228-205 vote to reject the bill was officially announced on the House floor. The 777-point decline for the day surpassed the 721-point previous record, on the day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, though in percentage terms it was well short of the drops on Black Monday of October 1987 and at the start of the Depression.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson looked grim afterward, if not shaken. "We need to work as quickly as possible," he said. "We need to get something done." He went on: "We need to put something back together that works." Looking to inject a note of confidence into a day of high anxiety, he offered: "Our banking system has been holding up very well, considering all of the pressures."

In the House chamber, as a digital screen recorded a cascade of "no" votes against the bailout, Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley of New York shouted news of the falling stocks. "Six hundred points!" he yelled, jabbing his thumb downward.

Bush and a host of leading congressional figures had implored the lawmakers to pass the legislation despite loud protest from their constituents back home. Not enough members were willing to take the political risk just five weeks before an election.

More than two-thirds of Republicans and 40 percent of Democrats opposed the bill. In all, 95 Republicans joined 140 Democrats in voting "yes," while 133 Republicans and 65 Democrats voted "no."

The overriding question for congressional leaders was what to do next. Congress has been trying to adjourn so that its members can go out and campaign for the election that is just five weeks away.

"The legislation may have failed; the crisis is still with us," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in a news conference after the defeat.

"What happened today cannot stand," Pelosi said. "We must move forward, and I hope that the markets will take that message."

At the White House, Bush said, "I'm disappointed in the vote. ... We've put forth a plan that was big because we've got a big problem." He pledged to keep pressing for a measure that Congress would pass.

{A Milestone}

McKay's glasses broke the other day and he has been begging us to get contacts. He would sit there and practice touching his eyeball. He was serious! ha ha So today was a big day for him.

I took him to the eye doctor today and had an eye exam. His eyes are actually not that bad it's just his lazy eye that causes him to have glasses. They had his perscription right there at the office so he was lucky enough to get them NOW.

They were really great with him and taught him everything he needed to know. I asked the girl if she had a lot of 10 year olds getting contacts and she said no and she was very impressed at how well he did. McKay is just like Dave, when he has his mind set on something there is no stopping him.

Here he is trying to get the contact on his skinny little finger tip
This was after about 10 tries in one eye and finally getting it in. His face was all red and he had tears rolling down his face (tears of joy of course) We were teasing him that he was crying like a baby. And this is him without glasses. Wow, it's going to take me a while to get used to this. He looks like a different kid to me

{Haunted Houses}

So I am sitting here listening to the radio and every other advertisement seems to be about a haunted house. I'm always up for a good haunted house and having my heart skip a beat here and there but come on people! Now you can sign a waiver to go in another part of the haunted house to have blood and guts and touching and....ugh it makes me sick to even think of it. Seriously? Why would you do that to yourself? If you have to sign a waiver that they are not liable for anything, it's probably not a good idea. Just my opinion. I would love to know of any of you that would do it and I want you to go and report back to me!!!

{Couples Bunco, New Job update}

Wow, it feels like forever since I have blogged! Life has been so crazy but I think I can see life at the end of the tunnel.

We had a really fun weekend. Every other month we get rid of our kids for a night and get together with a bunch of other couples and play bunco. This month it was at our house.

For the prizes we bought gift certificates to various restaurants and movie theaters. A long with those I found some funny novelty halloween items to go along with the gift certificates. These glasses and fangs were a hit! We were laughing so hard. I love this group of people and with all my stress of getting a new job I needed it!

Dave even felt the need to put on Harmony's high heels!

I started my new job yesterday and I couldn't be more happy! It is a great, great company to work for and they are all very nice. The company is called Testout Corporation . They make training DVD's to help people learn the IT industry so they can pass the certification that is required of them.

I was nervous at first just with the anticipation of how it was going to be, if I could live up to their expectations and I didn't get myself into something that I wasn't qualified for. But all those fears have gone away, this is the perfect job and it is so nice to be close to home. I get home 45 minutes earlier than I use to and that makes cooking dinner, cleaning and homework so much easier!

{Patriot Day}

7 years ago today was the terrorist attack in New York City at the world trade centers. I remember that morning well. Doing my make up getting ready for work while watching the news and they immediately switch over to one of the buildings on fire and report that an airplane had hit it.
17 minutes later on live TV you could see another airplane approaching, and hitting the second building.

Well lets get these people out of the buildings and everything will be fine right? WRONG. About an hour later one of the buildings collapse and everyone is in shock. If this one is going to collapse the other one is going to. Yep, about a half hour later there it goes and the New York skyline is changed forever!

What a huge tragedy for America.

This is what Wikipedia has to say. It pretty much sums up everything better than I could ever do.

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Islamic extremists belonging to the al-Qaeda movement upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners.[1][2] The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building, causing both buildings to collapse within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There are no known survivors from any of the flights.
Excluding the 19 hijackers, 2,974 people died in the attacks. Another 24 are missing and presumed dead. The overwhelming majority of casualties were
civilians, including nationals of over 90 different countries. In addition, the death of at least one person from lung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse, as rescue and recovery workers were exposed to airborne contaminants following the buildings' collapse.
The United States responded to the attacks by launching a
War on Terrorism, invading Afghanistan to depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists, and enacting the USA PATRIOT Act. Many other nations also strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. Stock exchanges closed for almost a week, and posted enormous losses upon reopening, especially in the airline and insurance industries. The economy of Lower Manhattan ground to a halt, as billions of dollars in office space was damaged or destroyed.
The damage to the Pentagon was cleared and repaired within a year, and a
small memorial was built on the site. Rebuilding the World Trade Center site has proven more difficult, with controversy over possible designs as well as the pace of construction. Construction delays, revised cost estimates, security concerns, and public criticism have all led to changes and delays to the final plans in rebuilding the complex to this day.

{Job Hunting}

On Friday I was informed by my employer that they are downsizing and didn't need me any longer. Wow, that was a blow and a half!!! My weekend was full of crying, stressing and wondering what I did wrong. They are letting me stay and work until I find another job. So now the hunt is on.

I am back to work and busy (I really don't know how they are going to live without an assistant) I have a better attitude about it and I am just going to keep on truckin!

I have an interview tomorrow with a company in Pleasant Grove that sounds wonderful. Keep your fingers crossed.

If any of you know of someone that needs a good little secretary in the Utah County/Draper/Sandy area let me know!

Even after bad news we had a great time at Swiss Days in Midway! I walked around and looked at all the booths making the same comment I make every year, "I could make that" So of course I didn't buy anything. My cousin is always in charge of the drink stand so we went over to chat and ended up putting the kids to work! They had a great time!
